Report from Ferryhill Wheelers for weekend of 14th/15th August.

It was another good weekend for the Ferryhill Wheelers Mountain High Race Team, with the squad enjoying success in both time trials and road races. On Saturday afternoon the Ferryhill Wheelers hosted the annual 25 mile time trial. National women's bronze medallist at the distance, Mathilde Matthijsse once again showed most of the male riders the way with a fantastic fourth place overall in a time of 56 minutes and 45 seconds. Needless to say she was first lady, but she also led the Mountain High squad to the team award. Howard Heighton (58.17) and Michael Warner (1hour 01.05) took the prize ahead of Team Swift. Winner of the event was Andy Jackson of Team Swift in a time of 55 mins and 17 secs.

Later in the afternoon in the North East Criterium League at Hetton Park, there were three Ferryhill riders in the first ten. Ollie Pearce led the team home in sixth, closely followed by Carl Mustill in 8th and Gert Gammelin in 9th, only a tyre width behind Mustill. All three scored points and Pearce is now only 10 away from his Category 2 licence.

On Sunday it was the turn of Paul Stubbs to take the honours. Riding in the TLI National Road Race Championship on a course near Boroughbridge, Stubbs was active in an early break of 6 riders. The group worked well together and built up a solid lead that the main bunch were not able to close. In the final sprint Stubbs came away with the win in his category and is now the proud owner of the national champions jersey. Stubbs has had a consistent season and this victory is just reward for his strong riding. Ferryhill Mountain High rider Howard Heighton capped off an excellent weekend for the team, riding well to finish at the front of the main bunch.
